Ohio Renters Insurance

Ohio is one of the heartland states and has five major cities with many small towns scattered across the state. Residents from all walks of life choose to rent properties instead of owning. Colleges such as Ohio University, Webster University and the University of Cincinnati bring many college age students to rent apartments, condos and homes in these areas. Unfortunately, with a large number of jobs lost due to the economic downturn more people are renting in Ohio. Such a large number of renters in the state and the fact that rivers often come to flood stage can mean catastrophes for those who don’t carry renters insurance.

Ohio renters insurance is a tremendously useful way of securing property for anyone renting a home, condo or apartment. Unfortunately, many tenants do not know it is available because for many years it was too expensive and not carried by most insurance companies. Previously, renters would try to purchase a homeowners policy in hopes of protecting their possessions, and were refused. Over the past decade, the Ohio Department of Insurance has made renters insurance available for every tenant across the state of Ohio. Ohio has a large number of senior citizens who have no protection on their belongings, and no way to replace them should a catastrophe occur. Yet, a monthly premium for apartment rental insurance would only cost $10 a month on average.

Ohio renters insurance was primarily designed to reimburse the tenant when their possessions were destroyed by a tornado, ice, wind, fire or theft. Additional coverage can be included for flood and other natural disasters. Now personal liability is included in most tenants' insurance coverage and protects the holder from lawsuits relating to an injury within their dwelling. This would typically be with a visitor or someone outside the policy holders’ direct inhabitants. Ohio Renters insurance also reimburses the holder should he or she need to stay in a hotel while the property is being fixed. Some coverage will also include incidentals, food and clothing needed during this interim period. Your renter’s policy will be adjusted according to your individual needs and ‘floaters’ are easily added. Today’s rental insurance is an affordable and effective plan to keep you and your family prepared in case of a disaster.
